Engineered Wood versus Solid Wood
The answer, in terms of the visual appearance is; not an awful lot!
Engineered wood is real wood. A common misbelief is that it is not. Engineered wood is often perceived to be a "laminate" wood that will peel and fade. When, in fact, engineered wood is fixed onto plyboard. The oak (yes oak!) is then placed onto the plyboard in a width of your choice, suited to your budget. The thicker the oak, the more times it can be sanded, as such it increases the price.
Engineered wood is much more tolerant to movement which allows it to be installed over underfloor heating.
Conversely, a solid piece of wood is fully solid all the way down from the top to the bottom. As such, it can withstand more sanding "sessions"- see our blog on this term for more info.
The colour variation between engineered wood and solid wood can swing your choice. For example, if you are seeking a more modern or smoked effect go for engineered- see our blog on colours for more info. Engineered wood is easier to manipulate the finish and colour.
Either of these beautiful oak products are guaranteed to transform the look and feel of your home. Both are real, sustainable products- see our blog on sustainability.
Wood is a natural raw product therefore its beauty lies in the knots and differential patterns on each plank or block. Both are visible on engineered and solid wood. This can affect the grading- which is determined by the manufacturer, makes a difference in the appearance of them and how aesthetically pleasing they are. Our bespoke collection is often viewed as the most pleasing on the eye. Most of this is graded as rustic or prime grade.
Both give you a natural smell during their longevity and ooze absolute luxury that is very hard to beat with any other product. We pride ourselves in picking certain blocks or planks to ensure that they look stunning. We compare this to painting a picture; here at Huscroft Flooring we are artists.
