Flooring FAQs – Honest Answers from Huscroft Flooring
Real questions. Straight answers. No fluff.
Here’s what customers ask us most about wood flooring, LVT, fitting, repairs, and everything in between – answered directly by Kieran @ Huscroft Flooring.
LVT vs Wood – Decision-Making
1.Is LVT better than real wood flooring for kitchens and bathrooms?
I've rarely put wood flooring in a bathroom, and to be honest, I wouldn’t put it in my own. It can be done – I’ve done it – but moisture-wise, I’d go tiles or vinyl all day long.
2. Will LVT flooring look as good as real wood?
It’s as good as anything. For vinyl, it looks smart – most people think it is wood. Even I have to take a second look sometimes. Some showrooms (not naming names) even sell it as wood because they think it is.
3. What’s the difference between LVT and laminate?
Laminate is basically MDF with a tough printed surface. If it’s good quality, it’s impact-resistant – you can hit it with a hammer and hardly make a mark. LVT is softer, more moisture-resistant, fits better, and looks neater. I personally prefer it over laminate.
4. Why do some customers choose wood over LVT?
Because wood is natural – it’s more beautiful. It’s a premium product and that’s why it’s more appreciated.
Maintenance & Durability
1. Is wood flooring really that hard to maintain?
No, you just need to clean it properly and use the right solutions. And actually do it. Wood’s the only floor I know that you can completely wreck, then sand and start again. See maintenance products here
2. How long does LVT last compared to wood?
Wood will outlast if it’s maintained right. You can keep restoring it. But I know homes with LVT down 20+ years that still look new – even estate agents thought it had just been installed.
3. Can pets damage wood flooring or LVT?
Any floor can be damaged. LVT is sold as scratch-resistant but nothing’s 100%. Wood scratches more easily but you can fix or hide them with oils. What you gain in one, you lose in the other. LVT wins on moisture; wood’s better for air quality.
4. Which floors are easiest to clean daily?
Both are easy, but LVT is simpler. Clean water, a mop and a bucket – done. View our cleaning products
Installation & Fit
1. Can you install new flooring over my existing floor?
You could – under the right conditions. But I’d advise taking it up if possible.

Yes – and I offer proper, realistic advice with it. View products that work
3. Can I use underfloor heating with wood or LVT?

4. How long does a typical flooring install take?
Anywhere from within a week to within a month, depending on the size of the job.
Damage, Repairs & Insurance
1. Can you repair a small section of damaged floor?
Yes – most of the time. Learn more
2. What if my floor was damaged in a flood or leak?
The subfloor usually needs drying out, so the floor needs uplifting. LVT often has to be replaced. Wood can sometimes be refitted, sanded and sealed once dry.
3. Do you do insurance quotes and reports for damaged floors?
Yes – I’ll send you a digital PDF to forward to your insurance company. Find out more

2. Do you offer unfinished or prefinished floors?
Yes - you can view many of our products online. View here
3. What’s the difference between oiled and lacquered wood floors?
Lacquer is like a plastic sheet on top – less maintenance but can’t nourish the wood unless you sand it off. Oil soaks into the wood, enhances the grain, and with good care, it ages like a fine wine – but it needs a bit more upkeep.
